If you are among the fans not happy with WWE signing Danhausen, a new rumor claims you can blame World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.

There were quite a few major happenings at the 2026 edition of Elimination Chamber. Rhea Ripley surprised some when she set up a huge matchup with WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill at WrestleMania 42. And Randy Orton locked up a shot at the WWE Undisputed belt next month.

However, one of the other notable moments was the reveal of what was in the mystery box. As reports heading into the event suggested, it was AEW alum Danhausen. But the comedy-based wrestler received a cold welcome from WWE fans in Chicago last week.

Even now, despite an entertaining debut on WWE Raw this week, there are still some fans unhappy with his addition. Especially after former NJPW main event David Finlay signed with AEW because they made a better offer in free agency. Well, it seems that a top star was a major force behind the signing.

CM Punk behind WWE signing Danhausen?

According to Wrestling Observer, reigning World Heavyweight champ CM Punk has been pushing hard on WWE decision makers to sign Danhausen.

The pair became friendly while both shared a locker room in AEW and appeared in some funny videos at conventions during that time. That friendship continued after Punk left AEW in 2023, and they even did some video content together last year despite being under contract to rival companies.

Time will tell if the signing works out for WWE. Thus far, reports state the company is already pleased with how well Danhausen’s merchandise has done since his mixed debut. Nevertheless, it shows the sort of influence the heavyweight champ has in the promotion.
