Brock Lesnar‘s retirement from WWE may not be as straightforward as it appears. PWInsider reported on Monday that, despite being moved to the alumni section of WWE.com — a page typically reserved for wrestlers no longer with the company — Lesnar is still listed as an active performer internally and is considered a free agent due to not being assigned to a specific brand.

The report did not address why he appears on the alumni page rather than the free agent section alongside Omos, AJ Lee, Paige, and others. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter added context to the situation.

Brock Lesnar faked retired at WrestleMania?

“Most in the company believed that was not his retirement, and nobody would confirm that it was a true retirement,” Meltzer wrote. “We were outright told to treat it as an angle, including from the same person who warned us to treat the first Seth Rollins injury as an angle.

“Lesnar’s stuff by design is almost always kept secretive. Lesnar was very convincing, and the situation came across so big that it would almost be a letdown for him to retire again. Most had expected his retirement at SummerSlam, since it is in Minneapolis this year.”

SummerSlam, taking place in Minneapolis — Lesnar’s hometown — adds weight to the expectation that the farewell tour is not yet complete. A retirement in front of a home crowd would make more sense for him since he was born there and got to wrestle for the University in college.
