Bret Hart has revealed that he refused to take Scott Hall’s Razor’s Edge finisher and that no amount of reassurance from Hall would have changed his mind.

Speaking with Dominic DeAngelo of Studio 1 Sports, Hart broke down exactly why the move made no sense to him from a safety standpoint and made clear his position has not softened with time. Hart left no room for interpretation when recounting the conversation.

“His finish where he would do that, what we call the Razor’s Edge, and he would pick you up and drop you on your head,” Hart said. “I remember I go, nobody is doing that to me, ever. I don’t care. And I would stand by that today. He goes, oh, don’t worry, I’ll set you down. I’m like, not on my f—ing head you’re not.

“No way. There’s no f—ing way. You’re 6’6 or something. You’re gonna fall backwards with me. The first thing that hits the ground is my head and my upper back. I said this doesn’t make any sense. It’s too dangerous, too stupid a move for me to do. And I refused to do it, period.”

The reasoning was straightforward for Hart. With Hall standing 6’6″, the mechanics of the move meant that a backward fall would send the person’s head and upper back into the canvas first, regardless of any effort to soften the landing.

Hart’s career was built on a safety-first philosophy that earned him a reputation as one of the safest workers in the history of the business, and the Razor’s Edge represented everything what he felt like he stood for.

The Razor’s Edge was one of the coolest finishers of its era and a signature finisher of Hall’s character, Razor Ramon, in WWE, where he was a three-time Intercontinental Champion.  Scott Hall passed away in March 2022. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014 as Razor Ramon and again in 2020 as a member of the nWo alongside Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Sean Waltman.
