A long-awaited dream match between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch is reportedly “locked in” for WrestleMania 42, marking the first singles encounter between two of the most influential figures in the history of the women’s division.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, while several creative pivots have occurred on the “Road to WrestleMania,” this specific clash has remained a key part of the internal plans for the April 18–19 event in Las Vegas.

The match represents a significant milestone for Lee, who made her shock return to WWE on the September 5, 2025, episode of SmackDown to save her husband, CM Punk, from an attack by Lynch and Seth Rollins. Since signing a part-time contract last September, Lee has yet to compete in a one-on-one match.

Her only in-ring appearance since her decade-long hiatus took place at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, 2025, where she and Punk defeated Rollins and Lynch in a high-profile mixed tag team match. Lee secured the win for her team in that contest by forcing Lynch to submit to the Black Widow.

Lynch will continue to enter the rivalry as the reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion, having captured the title in early 2026. While she has praised younger talent like Lyra Valkyria as the “future” of the division, Lynch has also hinted that her current contract may be her final run in professional wrestling due to burnout and a desire to spend more time with her daughter, Roux.

A showdown with AJ Lee at WrestleMania would serve as a potential crowning moment for Lynch’s historic career while providing the platform for Lee’s evolution in the modern era.

With the 2026 Royal Rumble scheduled for January 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, both women are expected to be factors in the 30-woman match. A confrontation during the Rumble could officially ignite the singles program, leading directly to their first-ever one-on-one meeting at Mania.
