WWE star Sonya Deville has reportedly been arrested in her native New Jersey for carrying a firearm without a legal permit.

On Wednesday afternoon, TMZ Sports broke the news that Deville — real name Daria Berenato — had been detained by Atlantic City police last month after a valet for a casino resort discovered a gun in her glove box and reported it to local officials.

Deville was in town reportedly celebrating her recent engagement to long-time girlfriend Toni Cassano.

Court documents show the event happened on Feb. 19, and while the WWE talent does own a gun permit where she currently resides in Florida, she is not legally permitted to carry in New Jersey. She was arrested soon after authorities were notified and has been charged with one count of unlawful weapon possession.

The 29-year-old former WWE authority figure is set to appear in court later this month to face the charges. Fightful reported that Sonya Deville is trying to have the case thrown out, and she has not received blowback from her bosses in the WWE since the arrest last month. Her multiple appearances on recent episodes of WWE Smackdown seem to confirm that news.

Deville was a victim of a home invasion and attempted kidnapping in 2020 and had a judge expedite receiving a gun permit soon after the incident, which is the reason behind her carrying a weapon with a permit outside of Florida.

The former Tough Enough contestant has been a regular on WWE programming over the last few months and recently had a feud with Smackdown women’s champion Charlotte Flair in the lead-up to the company’s most recent pay-per-view card, Elimination Chamber.
