WTA roundup: Anna Blinkova upends Marie Bouzkova in Hobart

Russia’s Anna Blinkova recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win over top-seeded Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic in a second-round match Wednesday at the Hobart International in Australia.

Blinkova benefited from four aces and overcame six double faults to secure the victory in 1 hour, 41 minutes.

Fifth-seeded Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine overcame a first-set scare to post a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Germany’s Tatjana Maria.

Also, eighth-seeded Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan breezed to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Spain’s Nuria Parrizas-Diaz.

No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia of France outlasted qualifier Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory in a second-round match in Australia.

Fifth-seeded Daria Kasatkina of Russia had an easier time of it in the WTA 500 event with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.

Sixth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and 12th-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova won their respective matches in a walkover.

Eighth-seeded Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, ninth-seeded Paula Badosa of Spain, 10th seeded Danielle Collins and 11th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil each recorded straight-set victories to advance in the tournament.
