After Kendrick Lamar made waves with his iconic Super Bowl halftime performance, the World Cup seems to have decided that soccer’s biggest stage wants to follow suit.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed the existence of a show at the tournament’s final match on July 19, 2026. “I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a Fifa World Cup final in New York New Jersey,” Infantino wrote on Instagram, per BBC. “This will be a historic moment for the Fifa World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

The event is slated to take place at MetLife Stadium, the New Jersey-based home of the New York Giants and New York Jets.
Chris Martin, the frontman of the iconic British band Coldplay, and band manager Phil Harvey will help to select a group of artists who will perform in the 15-minute halftime at next year’s final. Coldplay headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2016.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will split hosting duties between Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This iteration marks the first time there has ever been a halftime show in the tournament.
