Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was named a captain for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game after receiving a record-breaking 1,293,526 fan votes.
Clark led Minnesota Lynx player Napheesa Collier, who earned 1,176,020 votes and was named captain of the other All-Star roster.
The numbers, though, go well beyond that.
In the year before Clark became a member of the Fever, when she was still playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the All-Star voting numbers for the WNBA were borderline laughable.
The top vote-getter that season? Three-time league MVP and two-time WNBA champion A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.
She earned 95,860 votes.
WNBA All-Star Voting the year Before Caitlin Clark Arrived
From under 100,000 votes for the top player at the WNBA All-Star game to nearly 1.3 million. And here’s a stat that will pretty much blow your mind when it comes to Caitlin Clark’s numbers.
The top 30 players receiving votes in the 2023 WNBA All-Star game – combined – had fewer votes (1,171,708) than Clark and Collier this season.
Sorry, fans who don’t want to accept the fact that Clark is the face of the league and is essentially the sole generator of interest in the WNBA, but the Fever superstar is a basketball phenomenon.
Clark and Collier will choose the rest of their rosters on Monday, when the remaining eight starters for the All-Star Game will also be revealed.

Commissioner Says She’s America’s Most Popular Athlete
The All-Star voting numbers prove what is already known – Caitlin Clark is the WNBA right now.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert earlier this season declared Clark the most popular athlete in America, citing her transformative impact on the league and women’s basketball as a whole.
“She’s a generational talent,” Engelbert said during an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “No league is ever about one player, but in this case, Caitlin brought tens of millions of new viewers into the W.”
“And there’s no denying that impact. Not just in the WNBA, but the world of sports,” Engelbert added. “She’s the most popular athlete in America.”
Basketball legend Lisa Leslie has also praised Clark for her transformative impact on the league.
“Let me just say, Caitlin Clark has had an amazing impact on the WNBA,” the three-time league MVP said. “Her ability to come out and play, especially after her college season. And then to come into the WNBA and just really have the effect that she did, it was really outstanding.”
Clark has averaged 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game over nine games in her sophomore season, but she’s been hampered by injuries early on.
