The Phoenix Mercury now have another obstacle to overcome Friday in a crucial Game 4 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces. After Satou Sabally left Game 3 on Thursday with an injury, the team announced she has sustained a concussion and will miss Friday’s matchup.

Sabally has been a key piece for Phoenix in this series. The German forward scored 24 points Thursday and was leading a potential comeback after the team trailed by 17 points in the fourth quarter. However, Sabally then collided with Las Vegas forward Kierstan Bell while going for a loose ball.

She was on the floor for about 10 minutes before being assisted to her feet after initially trying to get up on her own.

Sabally signed a one-year, $215,000 contract with the Mercury earlier this year as part of a four-team trade that saw her leave Dallas for Phoenix.

Sabally’s Injury Could Prove Detrimental to Mercury

The timing of this injury couldn’t be worse for Phoenix, which is already trailing 3-0 in the series.

Sabally was the player who consistently created problems for Las Vegas in this Finals. She was too quick for their bigs but also too big for their guards.

While the Aces have been the superior team by far, the Mercury haven’t made it easy for them. But losing Sabally could spell big trouble for Phoenix.

This could be the deciding factor in whether the Mercury mount any comeback Friday night or face a sweep.
