The Chicago Sky suffered a defeat to the Toronto Tempo, a loss that dropped them at 3-4 during the early goings of the regular season. But despite the loss, there was reason for optimism in the team as rookie Sydney Taylor set a franchise record in scoring in the game.
With 27 points against the Tempo, not only was it Sydney Taylor’s career-high so far, but it was also a franchise record for the quickest player in Sky history to score at least 27 points.
In short, it took Sydney Taylor just five games to reach that mark. Although the Sky have played seven games to date, the rookie guard has only appeared in five so far.
Against the Toronto Tempo, Taylor shot 9-of-22 from the field, 3-of-12 from the 3-point line and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in 23 minutes off the bench. She also added two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

This season, she’s currently averaging 9.6 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists with splits of 32.6 percent shooting from the field, 22.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Chicago signed the former UMass and Louisville standout as a free agent in the offseason and she made the team’s final roster out of training camp. She previously went undrafted in the 2024 WNBA Draft and had played overseas since then.
Nonetheless, Taylor’s playing time has progressively increased since the start of the season, and prior to the Tempo game, she’s had been coming off what was previously her best outing so far. Despite a loss to the Minnesota Lynx, she dropped what was then a career-high 11 points in a little over 19 minutes.
