Earlier this week, legendary football mind Nick Saban announced his sudden retirement from the Alabama Crimson Tide. His departure has led to a cascading effect, with Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer quickly bailing on his former team to join the Crimson Tide instead.

But Saban’s decision isn’t just leading to coaching changes across college football; we’re also seeing several prospects change their minds, too. That even includes the 2024 projected starting quarterback for the Huskies.

With Michael Penix Jr. off to the NFL, the Washington Huskies needed to find a capable replacement who could still lead a high-powered offense. Coach DeBoer managed to land Mississippi State’s Will Rogers, who ranks second all-time among SEC quarterbacks with 12,315 career passing yards. Rogers was a four-year starter for the Bulldogs and was seen as someone who could help the Huskies move on after losing Penix to the NFL.

Only now, Rogers is having second thoughts.

According to college football insider Pete Nakos, Rogers has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal. Yet, until he officially transfers elsewhere, it’s still possible Rogers ends up quarterbacking the Huskies in 2024.

Then again, with DeBoer leaving town, the likelihood of Rogers still wanting to lead a Washington offense that suddenly has several question marks, in addition to needing to replace star receivers Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk, may be slim.
