The Kansas City Chiefs possess an unusual little piece of trivia for 2014 the season. Their wide receivers have yet to catch a touchdown pass in 14 games.
In hopes of avoiding being shutout from a touchdown standpoint, Chiefs receivers take on a suspect Steelers secondary that has allowed 15 touchdowns by wide receivers this season.
Additionally, the Steelers’ defense has allowed an average of 183 yards per game to the wide receiver position. Will we finally see the Chiefs No. 1 wide receiver Dwayne Bowe catch his first touchdown of the season this week? Bowe has piled up only 667 yards over the course of the season, which averages to a paltry 47.6 yards per game.
Just because Bowe isn’t scoring doesn’t mean the Chiefs aren’t putting the ball in for six. Their offense is a predominantly a ground-led attack for which the team’s two primary running backs Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis mandate the goal line scores. Charles has 14 total touchdowns to date. Davis has seven.
Additionally, when the ball is thrown in for a touchdown, one of the Chiefs’ handy tight ends is the targeted recipient of the score. Travis Kelce has five touchdown catches and Anthony Fasano possesses four.
