“This is not a joke,” Will Ferrell quipped as he was being introduced as a co-owner of LAFC, an MLS expansion team set to start playing in 2018.

The world-famous comedian joins a growing list of co-owners in the new venture. According to thegoatparade.com, he became the 23rd co-owner of the club, joining the likes of Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra, among others.

Those who keep up with the zany superstar are likely not surprised to see him get involved in a pro sports team. Ferrell has long been a fixture at Los Angeles Lakers, USC football and San Francisco Giants games.

Ferrell picked a special day to be announced, as the MLS franchise also unveiled its new logo and colors Thursday.

LAFC joins the L.A. Galaxy as the second MLS franchise in the city of Los Angeles, which could soon be joined by one or two NFL franchises in 2016.
