White Sox manager Rick Renteria hospitalized due to ‘lightheadedness’

Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria was taken to the hospital on Monday. Per an AP report, Renteria went to the hospital after “complaining of lightheadedness.”

“The 56-year-old Renteria was at the ballpark when the issue arose and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center as a precaution,” the report said. “A team official says tests didn’t show any problems.”

That’s certainly scary.

Fortunately, the early news seems to be good. Hopefully the news will continue to be good and Renteria will be out of the hospital and back on Chicago’s bench shortly.

In Renteria’s stead, bench coach Joe McEwing will manage the Sox, who are in Minnesota for only game. Following Monday’s game, a makeup from a previous rainout, the two teams will move Chicago for a two-game series.

Renteria’s third year with the White Sox has been a trying one. Entering Monday’s game in Minnesota, Chicago had a with a 46-77 record, MLB’s third-worst record ahead of only the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals.
