Western Michigan coach Tim Lester receives two-year extension

Western Michigan coach Tim Lester received a two-year extension through the 2025 season, the school announced Tuesday.

The agreement calls for Lester’s contract to be extended by one season any time the Broncos win eight or more games in a season.

Western Michigan went 8-5 this past season, capped by a 52-24 victory over Nevada in the Quick Lane Bowl. The Broncos also defeated Pittsburgh, which went on to win the Atlantic Coast Conference championship.

Lester, a former starting quarterback at Western Michigan, has a 32-25 record in five seasons at the helm.

“I am thrilled and grateful to agree to a two-year contract extension with Western Michigan University, which is so special to me,” Lester said in a news release. “I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae for his trust in me and my coaching staff.”

Lester was inducted into the Western Michigan’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He ranks third in school history with 11,299 yards and 87 touchdowns from 1996-99.
