After spending two years with the Houston Texans as an offensive assistant, former NFL star receiver Wes Welker is reportedly joining the San Francisco 49ers.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle first noted that Welker was leaving Houston and would “do well” with the 49ers.
Shortly after that, Matt Barrows of The Athletic confirmed Welker would be joining Kyle Shanahan’s staff as the team’s wide receiver coach.
Welker brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to a young 49ers receiving corps that could certainly use the help. As a player, he was a two-time First-team All-Pro and three-time NFL receptions leader.
