Zion Williamson was selected No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft, to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
He was all smiles walking to the podium.
But when it came time for his ESPN interview and started talking about how he is the person and player he is today because of his mother’s sacrifices, he broke down in tears.
The emotions flowed freely in the moment, and it was a beautiful thing: “My mom sacrificed a lot for me,” Williamson said. “I wouldn’t be here without my mom. She did everything for me. I just want to thank her.”
