There is nothing better in baseball than when a player takes time out before the game to show some love to the fans. Before Friday’s game against the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras took that to another level with a special moment.
Decked out in his full gear, Contreras walked over to a young fan holding a sign with Contreras face on it and gave him a hug. The moment was clearly emotional for both, as the fan held close to Contreras for as long as he could and took in the moment.
The smile on the fan’s face and the brief moment when Contreras wiped tears away from his eyes make it even more special.
Contreras was already posting numbers worthy of starting in the All-Star Game with 15 home runs, a .950 OPS and .292 batting average. Perhaps moments like this will help even more fans identify with Contreras and vote him into the game.
