As fans settled in at London Stadium to watch the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the London Series, Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks immediately put on a show with the first home run hit in Europe.
In the first inning with the Yankees already leading 4-0, Hicks turned a hanging changeup into a two-run blast into the right-field bleachers for the first home run of the London Series.
New York jumped on Red Sox starting pitcher Rick Porcello early in the first inning, putting on a show for the folks in London. Finally, Hicks delivered the big blow to chase Porcello from the game in the first inning.
MLB wants to grow the game more internationally and putting the two most iconic franchises in the sport is an incredible first step. Now Hicks and the Yankees are providing the offensive explosion MLB was hoping for as the fireworks are starting early in London.
