WATCH: Will Grier gaffe leads to Sooners defensive TD

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

In an electrifying, offensive shootout between the Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia Mountaineers, one costly gaffe and a huge defensive play might now make the difference in the game.

Midway through the fourth quarter with Oklahoma trailing, Grier tried to do too much and his reckless decision proved costly. Grier was surrounded by pressure and seemingly lost control of the football on a fumble that never should have happened.

After a fight on the ground for the football, Sooners linebacker Curtis Bolton scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a 48-yard touchdown to give Oklahoma a two-score lead late in the game.

It’s hard to even explain what Grier was trying to do on the play. In the end, it didn’t work out and his decision led to a potential game-changing touchdown for the Sooners.
