The 2019 college football season has been filled with some jaw-dropping catches. During Friday’s Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, Wake Forest Demon Deacons receiver Donavon Greene made one of the best catches this decade. Unfortunately it was nullified by a penalty.
Wake Forest’s freshman receiver created some separation down the field and quarterback Jamie Newman lofted it to him. Michigan State cornerback Shakur Brown nearly made the one-handed interception, but the ball deflected off his hands then toward a diving Greene.
The freshman had it bounce off his hands before he turned his body around to catch the football in his chest as he fell towards the ground.
Sadly, a penalty wiped away one of the best catches we’ll see all season and it left us wishing that the referees decided to pick up the flag and let the catch stand simply out of pure shock and appreciation.
Fortunately, the freshman is still making more plays in this game and appears to be having his breakout moment. We can’t wait to see what he does in this offense in the years to come.
