Not much has gone right for the New Orleans Pelicans this season. With the Pelicans entering Tuesday night with a 6-21 record, the referees made things even worse by potentially costing New Orleans a chance at a win.
In the final seconds against the Brooklyn Nets, Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie missed a three-point attempt and it didn’t hit the rim. While the shot clock expired with nearly three seconds left, the referees missed the call as the clock rapidly ticked away and the Pelicans couldn’t get a shot off.
If the officials made the correct call and charged Brooklyn with the shot-clock violation, New Orleans would have gotten the ball with two seconds left in the game. It would have been more than enough time to set up a clear shot and go for the win.
Instead, the missed call pushed the game into overtime and the Nets won 108-101 final. We’ve seen some bad missed calls this season in the NBA and this moment, especially given when it happened, adds to the growing list of blown calls.
