WATCH: Rays’ epic fail on blooper allows two runs to score

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and after having already allowed two runs on a Jose Altuve home run, the Rays gave the Houston Astros a gift.

Yuri Gurriel popped a ball up to short right field — a legit blooper. Three Rays players — second baseman Brandon Lowe, first baseman Ji-man Choi, and right fielder Austin Meadows — all came together.

None of them made the play, and two runs scored.

To be fair, this ball was going to be tough for anyone to get, but a distinct lack of communication by the Rays was the big reason this ball dropped.

Now with a four-run lead, and Justin Verlander dealing, the Astros appear poised to take Game 1 of this series.
