The Tampa Bay Lightning erased a three-goal deficit in the third period and Ondrej Palat scored off Victor Hedman’s feed at 2:43 of overtime to beat Detroit 7-6 on Thursday, spoiling Tyler Bertuzzi’s four-goal night and the host Red Wings’ opener.

Palat and Steven Stamkos scored two goals apiece, while Alex Killorn scored the tying goal late in regulation. Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists and Ross Colton also scored for the Lightning, who lost their opener to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Bertuzzi, who missed most of last season due to a back injury, had a second-period hat trick. Dylan Larkin and Vladislav Namestnikov scored the other Detroit goals and Moritz Seider collected his first two NHL assists.

Larkin scored the only goal of the first period.

The Wings emerged from a wild second period with a 4-3 advantage.

During a 4-on-4 situation, Bertuzzi scored his first goal. He banged in his second goal on a rebound of Adam Erne’s shot at 7:52, putting Detroit ahead 3-0.

Palat answered just 16 seconds later with a shot from the right circle that slipped inside Alex Nedeljkovic’s glove.

At 11:40, Larkin was given a match penalty for retaliation after getting shoved into the boards. But the Lightning received two roughing penalties, giving Detroit a power play. Bertuzzi took advantage when he camped out near the net, took a pass from Robby Fabbri and jammed it behind a sprawled Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Stamkos then scored twice with the Lightning on the power play. His first came on a one-timer from the slot. Stamkos then ripped a shot from the left circle past Nedeljkovic, cutting Detroit’s lead to 4-3.

Bertuzzi delivered his fourth goal early in the third period after serving out a penalty. He collected the puck in the Lightning zone and lifted a shot over Vasilevskiy’s shoulder.

Namestnikov scored on a rebound of Michael Rasmussen’s shot to make it 6-3.

Then came the Lightning flurry.

Colton scored at 13:43 of the period and Kucherov tallied on the power play at 16:25. Killorn scored in front off Hedman’s feed from behind the net just over a minute later.
