Chicago White Sox prospect Eloy Jimenez flew out in the first inning of a Triple-A game on Tuesday. But the opponents needed a crazy defense to get the out.

With two outs and nobody on in the first inning of Tuesday’s game, the Durham Bulls sent Micah Johnson — their starting second baseman — to the outfield. The four outfielder set paid off. Jimenez smoked a ball to the right-center field gap, but Johnson ran it down and made a leaping catch at the wall.

That’s just not something that you’re going to see every day. Then again, the same can be said about an opponent like Jimenez.

Entering Tuesday’s game, Jimenez had hit .346/.392/.590 with 21 home runs between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. With the Knights, he’s hit .378/.419/.628 with 11 home runs. Jimenez in the Minor Leagues is roughly on par with a Grammy winner performing at a local dive bar on a random Tuesday night. It’s fun for anyone there. But everyone in attendance knows that he belongs on the bigger, brighter stage.

But while he’s in the minors, unusual defensive sets against Jimenez are needed. And for at least this one at-bat, it worked out.
