WATCH: Khris Davis takes MLB lead with 39th home run

The red-hot play of the Oakland Athletics has been buoyed by slugger Khris Davis. During Thursday’s game agianst the Minnesota Twins, Davis hit his 39th homer of the season, taking the MLB lead for himself in the process.

Hitting an opposite field home run at Target Field is not easy. Additionally, that ball was not exactly down the line. It was hit into the right-center field gap. Davis’ strength makes him a pure nightmare for opposing pitchers.

The general feeling has been that if Boston Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez fails to win the AL Triple Crown, it will be because he couldn’t catch teammate Mookie Betts’ batting average.

But obviously, Davis, who is now one homer short of hitting 40 for a third straight year, is putting his own stake in the home run race.
