WATCH: Gamecocks fans chuck wet towels onto field in protest of penalty

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Gamecocks fans threw wet towels onto the field after South Carolina was called for holding on a play that otherwise would have resulted in an interception.

South Carolina, down 24-20 midway through the fourth quarter, appeared to have a game-changing play in the end zone. Unfortunately, the guy who made the play, Jaycee Horn, also grabbed the receivers’s facemask before making the interception.

Here’s video of the penalty, and of the fans throwing their wet towels onto the field on a rainy afternoon in Columbia.

Stay classy out there, Gamecocks fans.

For what it’s worth, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was also not happy with how this all played out.
