Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in NFL history back in 2018, and his recovery has been grueling.

Multiple surgeries were needed, and at one point there was a legitimate discussion about whether it would be better to simply amputate Smith’s leg to save his life.

Smith is determined to not only recover fully but to also get back onto an NFL football field and continue his career. He’s been documenting his recovery process with ESPN’s Stephania Bell, and now we’re getting a first look at the coming show.

Chills.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers way back in 2005, Smith was a very good starting quarterback in the NFL before the leg injury that nearly cost him his life. We’d love nothing more than to see him come back and play at the highest level once more. Until then, his journey will continue to inspire.
