Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Mason Rudolph has had an opportunity to prove himself with Ben Roethlisberger out for the season. For the most part, the second-year quarterback has been good.

Unfortunately, what we saw take place in the third quarter of his team’s game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday is about the scariest thing we’ll see on the NFL field this season.

Rudolph attempted to scramble on a third down. That’s when he was hit by Ravens safety Earl Thomas. Rudolph found himself out cold.

Rudolph legitimately landed on the turf like a sack of rocks. Out cold. The good news is that he did get up minutes after being hit.

While Thomas was called for a personal foul, members of both teams were seen near Rudolph showing concern.

Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was seen on the field in tears.

It’s moments like these that make us realize just how violent of a sport football is. Thankfully, it seems that Rudolph avoided a serious injury.
