Dallas Mavericks big man and the greatest player in franchise history, forward Dirk Nowitzki, was seemingly playing his final home game in front of the crowd he’s known for the past 21 years Tuesday evening.

Dirk had not officially announced his retirement prior to Dallas’ home win over the Phoenix Suns Tuesday evening. But his franchise pulled out all the stops in acting like it was his final home game as a member of the Mavericks.

Following the game, Nowitzki addressed the crowd inside America Airlines Arena. In doing so, he officially announced his retirement following Wednesday’s road date with the San Antonio Spurs.

Much like Dwyane Wade in Miami, this season was treated like Dirk’s final in the NBA. Given that he’s officially announced it, the 14-time All-Star went out on top. Nowitzki dropped 30 points and grabbed eight boards in a 120-109 win over Phoenix.

Dirk’s next step is as a first ballot Hall of Famer after being among the most-respected players in his two-plus decades in the Association.
