Nationals’ Trea Turner could take swings next week

Trea Turner Nationals

A month after he suffered a broken right index finger after getting hit by a pitch, Washington Nationals star shortstop Trea Turner might be nearing the first big step to a return.

According to The Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli, Turner is progressing well in his recovery and the team expects he should be able to take some swings next week.

The injury: Turner squared up to lay down a bunt during Washington’s game on April 2 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin’s pitch came inside and hit Turner squarely in the finger.

Potential return: Turner is now reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery, which is great news for a team in need of a boost.
