While it’s unfortunate that Michael Penix Jr. won’t be the Washington Huskies’ quarterback when the 2024 college football season kicks off, his near Heisman-worthy effort has helped put Kalen DeBoer’s program on the map for good.

With Washington on the hunt for a QB to help replace Penix’s incredible production, recruits looking for a new college football program have to be enamored with the Huskies’ outstanding offense in 2023.

Options like Riley Leonard, Cam Ward, Maalik Murphy, and several others are just some of the top quarterbacks in the NCAA transfer portal. Yet, it appears Washington won’t be adding any of those QBs to the mix.

Instead, it’s Mississippi State’s Will Rogers, who’s announced his commitment to Washington, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Rogers comes with just one year of eligibility remaining, so Washington may find themselves in the same boat next season. Yet, if the SEC’s second-leading passer of all-time can find immediate success in Washington too, chances are the Huskies won’t care that he’s departing for the NFL at the end of the year anyway.

With Washington leading the nation in passing yards, Rogers appears to be stepping into a strong situation, yet the Huskies might need to bolster their receiving corps too with leading pass-catchers Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk headed to the NFL too.
