While it has not been confirmed that Rivera’s tenure as head coach is over it nonetheless seems like an eventuality after amassing a 26-39 record in four seasons leading the team. Due to that fact that has seemed apparent for several weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about who could replace him.
A common theory is that owner Josh Harris would like to make a major splash in his first head coach hiring, and that’s why there have been reports linking him to a potential trade for New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick — if he actually becomes available. “The question is whether Harris would give Belichick full control over personnel — and whether Belichick would regard the absence of final say over the roster and the draft as a dealbreaker,” Florio wrote.
Belichick currently oversees the personnel moves made by the Patriots after creating a legendary dynasty for the franchise over two decades and winning them six Super Bowl titles in that time. The 71-year-old taking a step back and not having a say over roster moves would be a big change for the all-time great coach.
