It was noted earlier on Tuesday that the Golden State Warriors expect star guard Klay Thompson to miss the entire 2019-20 season with a torn ACL.
This threw some for a loop given that initial hopes were that Thompson would be back after the All-Star Break.
In attempting to clarify his comments about Thompson, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had this to say.
“He’s doing great with his rehab. It’s still possible Thompson could play,” Kerr said. “But I forgot, with the modern media ‘unlikely’ is going to be on the ticker, OUT FOR THE YEAR and all of that stuff.”
Other reports later on Tuesday noted that the Warriors were under promising as it relates to Thompson’s timeline for return.
In no way does this mean that Thompson will return this season. Instead, it’s still a possibility. Given the timing of his ACL surgery, post All-Star break would be the earliest.
Then again, Golden State signed the three-time NBA champ to max five-year, $189.9 million deal back in July.
As with former Warriors star Kevin Durant in Brooklyn, Golden State does not want to risk his future by rushing the guard back.
