Warriors owner hints team will give Stephen Curry super-max contract

Stephen Curry

Following their second NBA title in three years, the Golden State Warriors are going to be pretty darn busy during the summer. As many as eight members of their championship squad will become free agents, including MVPs Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

Normally, that would be a major concern for a team of the Warriors’ ilk. But the longstanding belief has been that both Curry and Durant will decide to re-sign with the team.

For Durant, suggestions are that he will take less than the max to help keep this Warriors squad together.

Though, it’s looking more and more like Curry himself is going to receive a super-max contract that will pay him north of $200 million for five seasons (more on that here).

When discussing this possibility following Golden State’s close-out Game 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals, Warriors owner Joe Lacob didn’t mince words. The team is going to do everything possible to re-sign Curry.

Again, this shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise. Curry has not shown any interest in leaving the Warriors. And despite Durant’s NBA Finals MVP performance, the guard remains the face of the franchise in Oakland.

It will be interesting to see how the Warriors handle their massive number of free agents. But it seems highly likely that the team’s core group will remain together.
