Warriors bracing for long-term absense of Steve Kerr

Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Game 2 2017 NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-0 series lead against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night. They did so without former MVP Kevin Durant and head coach Steve Kerr.

While Durant will likely be back from his calf injury here soon, it looks like the Warriors will be without Kerr for the foreseeable future.

Reports surfaced prior to Saturday’s game that Kerr was under the weather and would miss the action. There’s now a bit of clarification as it relates to Kerr’s health problems. It’s a continuation of the back issues that kept Kerr out for nearly a half of season in 2015-16.

That’s most definitely not good news for the Warriors. Sure veteran Mike Brown has the experience to lead this team through the playoffs. But Kerr has been among the most-successful head coaches in NBA history, having put up a 207-39 record in three seasons as the Warriors’ head coach.

Taking away the impact of this on the court, there has to be some major concern about Kerr’s long-term health. As of right now, that’s likely the biggest focus from what is a tight-knit Warriors organization.

The Warriors will take on Portland on the road in Game 4 on Monday with an opportunity to complete the sweep. They will now likely do so without Kerr on the bench.
