Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is dealing with a whole host of off-field issues after multiple incidents in Minneapolis this past weekend.

Prior to missing the Vikings’ game on Sunday, Griffen allegedly threatened to shoot an unnamed person at a hotel Saturday afternoon. Later that night, he was arrested for breaking into a teammate’s home.

The Vikings released a statement after both incidents became public record, focusing more on Griffen’s mental health. After all, he was being held for evaluation as recently as Monday evening.

Now, with the Vikings set to head to Los Angeles to take on the Rams Thursday night, head coach Mike Zimmer indicated that Griffen will not travel to Los Angeles with the team.

Zimmer also indicated he will not get into details regarding the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end while noting that “In the long run, he’s a really good kid.”

At this point, it’s about a lot more than football. It’s rather clear Griffen is dealing with some mental issues. Getting him right off the field has to be the Vikings’ biggest concern right now.
