Vikings Pro Bowl LB Anthony Barr skips OTAs

The Minnesota Vikings are without one of their key defenders at their voluntary OTAs. Linebacker Anthony Barr — who has made each of the last three Pro Bowls — did not show up.

Barr being a no-show was expected.

“He came to me [Tuesday] and said he wasn’t going to be here,” coach Mike Zimmer said, per Andrew Kramer of the Star Tribune. The coach was then asked if he felt it was a contract matter. “I don’t worry about those things. …  I just know the conversation we had, I’ll keep between myself and him.”

Other key Minnesota defenders have been locked up to long-term deals. Barr, however, is heading into the final year of his contract. He’s set to make just over $12.3 million for the 2018 season.

Barr was drafted No. 9 overall by the Vikings in 2014.

In 2017, he recorded 52 solo tackles, assisted on 23 others, defended six passes, and was a vital part of one of the NFL’s best defenses. Since the OTAs are voluntary, Barr is not missing out on any money. If he misses the team’s mini-camp in June, a fine will become a possibility.
