USWNT star Mallory Swanson has successful knee surgery

United States women’s national team star forward Mallory Swanson underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left patella tendon on Tuesday.

Swanson, who was injured Saturday in a friendly against Ireland, is expected to miss the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will begin in July.

“This is hard,” Swanson posted on Instagram. “I’m in shock and don’t have much to say other than, thank you to everyone for the messages. I feel the love and prayers, and holding them close to my heart.

“Surgery this morning was a success. I’m thankful for my trainers, doctors, coaches, and teammates for their help throughout this process. The beauty out of all of this, is that God is always good. He’s got me and always has.”

Swanson, 24, was the leading scorer for the USWNT this year. She was carted off late in the first half Saturday after she collided with an opponent and her knee buckled.

The USWNT will play another friendly against Ireland before it selects its 23-woman team for the World Cup.
