After months of speculation that he might decide to return to USC for his junior season, quarterback Sam Darnold has declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.
The announcement came via Darnold’s personal Instagram account on Wednesday evening.
With only two years of college starting experience, Darnold was on the receiving end of harsh criticism this past season. That came to a culmination in a blowout loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl that saw him fail to record a single touchdown pass.
Though, the 6-foot-4 signal caller is considered one of the top overall prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has a prototypical build for a quarterback at the next level and boasts a plus-level arm. The pre-draft process will be extremely interesting for this now former Trojan.
Darnold finishes his college career having thrown for 7,229 yards with 57 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.
