UNLV running back Darran Williams was working out Tuesday when he suffered a heart attack, which required doctors to induce him into a 72-hour coma.
The induced coma is to determine how Williams ended up suffering the heart attack in the first place, his father Keith divulged in a Facebook post (h/t The Oklahoman).
The school released a short statement about what it described as a “medical episode.”
“He is being treated by doctors at a local hospital with his family at his side. The thoughts and prayers of the entire UNLV community are with him and his family,” the statement said, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Williams was a transfer from Northwestern Oklahoma A&M College to UNLV ahead of the 2019 season. He appeared in five games for the Runnin’ Rebels last season, tallying 79 yards and a touchdown on 25 rushing attempts.
