The Alabama Crimson Tide are slated to open the home part of their schedule in Tuscaloosa Oct. 3 against the Texas A&M Aggies.
While that opener is not yet in question, the school continues to report some absolutely eye-opening COVID-19 numbers.
Alabama reports 846 more cases of COVID-19
“A total of 846 students in Tuscaloosa tested positive from Aug. 28-Sept. 3 for an average of 120.9 per day. Combined with the first two releases, a total of 1,899 UA students have been infected since classes began Aug. 19,” Michael Casagrande of AL.com noted Friday.
To put this into perspective, the state of Wyoming has seen 119 new cases over the past four days combined. This is just the continuation of authorities on campus struggling to contain the virus in Tuscaloosa.
Despite this, there’s no plans in place to send students home for virtual classes. The powers that be believe there would be further spread if students were to return home. As of right now, 40% of quarantine dorms set up on-campus are at capacity.
The backdrop here is a college football season that has already started and will see three of the Power Five conferences open up their campaigns in about three weeks.
Alabama’s first game is Sept. 26 on the road at Missouri. There might actually be fans in attendance for that game.
