It’s not yet known when (or if) the 2019-20 NBA season will resume. It’s been suspended for the past two months after Utah Jazz star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19.
As the Association plots a return behind the scenes, players are now being asked about their opinions regarding whether the season should resume.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the National Basketball Players Association started sending text messages to players with a question that requires a simple yes or no answer.
This should give the union a more concrete understanding of where its members stand in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver held a conference call with players last week as a way to answer any questions. Though, that represented more broad strokes than anything else.
The Association’s most-recent plans includes playing games in “bubble cities” in Orlando and Las Vegas. Whether that remains a viable option is not yet known.
As with all sports looking to return in some capacity, it’s as much about the players as it is the leagues themselves. If said players don’t support a specific plan set forth by the league, a resumption of the season seems highly unlikely.
