Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke is one of a growing list of former players who have expressed their thoughts at the club’s downward spiral since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Yorke, who was part of United’s historic treble-winning campaign in 1999, has now urged the club’s hierarchy to address issues in midfield this January with a signing from Premier League archrivals, Chelsea.
The Red Devils currently have a mix of young players like Kobbie Mainoo and experienced stars like Casemiro in their squad.
But Dwight Yorke believes a key Chelsea star could turn United into genuine title contenders again if the club brings him over to Old Trafford.

Man United urged to sign Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo
According to the current Trinidad and Tobago head coach, a move for the Ecuadorian star would help United mount a serious title challenge in the league.
Dwight Yorke made this known while speaking in a recent interview with FootItalia, arguing that the current options at Old Trafford can’t really control the game in the centre of the park.
“One of the qualities that Manchester United have had in the past is a good number six, who can really sit in that midfield, conduct the style of play, and influence the team,” he said.
“It’s an area we thought Casemiro would have filled. He looked very good when he first arrived, but he’s not getting any younger. So, it’s an area United will need to address.”
Yorke further stated that the United midfield needs someone who can greatly exert influence and “get around the place”.
“Who else is out there that can fill that role and really influence the game? Someone like Moises Caicedo does a great deal of work there… But it’s not just a sitting role, it’s someone who brings that energy and can see that pass.”

“That number six role is so crucial. You’ve got to be mobile, you’ve got to be athletic enough to get around the place, and also control the game and the tempo,” he added.
It remains to be seen if United make a move for Yorke’s preferred choice in midfield. But fans are eager for a change in the club’s fortune, especially after the firing of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim earlier this month.
