Sports is back in Las Vegas after a long hiatus. UFC 250 at UFC Apex right off the Vegas strip will go down Saturday night, June 6. The headliner pits featherweight champion Amanda Nunes against Felicia Spencer in a match that was expected to take place in UFC 249 before being postponed.
Fans can watch this fight, and the rest of the main card at UFC 250, on ESPN+ starting at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 6. Here, we preview the bout, along with the latest odds and predictions.
UFC 250: Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer
Nunes, a 32-year-old Brazil native, will compete for the first time since she defeated Germaine de Randamie in UFC 245 last December. She’s set to take on a top competitor in that of Spencer who last appeared in a main event back in July of last year.
Per Bovada, here are the latest odds:
- Amanda Nunes: -650
- Felicia Spencer: +425
It goes without saying that Nunes is the biggest favorite of UFC 250 this coming Saturday night. She has not lost a fight since all the way back in September of 2014 against the famed Cat Zingano. Though, I expect Spencer to at least show some competitiveness.
Amanda Nunes: Reigning champ takes center stage
In the midst of a 10-match winning streak that includes a submission of Miesha Tate and a knockout of Ronda Rousey, Nunes is the single biggest name on the women’s circuit. Of those 10 wins, seven have come via either submission or knockout. She’s simply been a dominating figure.
Nunes is two inches taller than Spencer at 5-foot-8, though, she does give about 10 pounds. That should be counteracted by her speed in the Octagon and the fact that she boasts the advantage in terms of both reach and leg reach.
Felicia Spencer: The biggest fight of her career
As noted before, Spencer has only had one prime match throughout her career. That resulted in a loss to Cris Cyborg in UFC 240. Needless to say, this is the biggest fight of her still-young career.
I am more interested to see if Spencer can use her weight advantage to get Nunes early and often. Her knockout percentage of 14% if not great. But Spencer has submitted her opponent 57% of the time compared to 17% for Nunes. The longer this fight goes, the better chance Spencer has of pulling off a huge upset.
Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer: Notable quotes ahead of UFC 250
There hasn’t been a whole lot of back-and-forth between these two in the lead up to the fight. That could change later in the week at weigh-ins. However, there also seems to be a mutual level of respect. Given her status as a major underdog, Spencer likely doesn’t want to give Nunes much bulletin board material, either.
Spencer did talk about her goal to be No. 1. Of course, that will only happen if she is able to pull off what would be one of the greatest upsets in MMA history.
UFC 250: Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer prediction
It seems highly unlikely that Spencer is going to pull off one of the greatest upsets in UFC history. Vegas doesn’t trend in the direction we’ve seen over the past couple days without knowing what’s up. The money is going heavily in Nunes’ direction.
The tale of the tape is another thing that leads me to believe Nunes should win this one early on. Her 10-match winning streak coupled with advantages in both reach and leg reach will make this the most lopsided match of the night.
Prediction: Nunes knocks out Spencer in Round 2.
