UCF’s Johnny Dawkins reportedly top target of Vanderbilt to replace Bryce Drew

Following a historically poor season for the Vanderbilt men’s basketball team, head coach Bryce Drew was fired. Now the university is reportedly targeting UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins to replace him.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported the school’s interest in Dawkins, noting that UCF would like to try and keep him.

Dawkins did a phenomenal job leading the Knights this past season, going 24-9. And, of course they were literally an inch away from taking down Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

His heartfelt speech in the locker room after that devastating loss went viral, and he’s clearly one of the hottest commodities in college basketball coaching circles at this time.

A former player for Duke who went on to coach under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke for a decade, Dawkins has a record of 223-149 over 11 seasons coaching Stanford and UCF.
