U.S. curler celebrating Canada upset with McFlurry

For the first time in Olympic history, the United States will compete for the gold medal. And after the team’s historic 5-3 triumph over Canada, Matt Hamilton had a terrific idea of a celebration.

“You know, I might go back to the village and have a McFlurry,” he said, per Laken Litman of the Indianapolis Star.

Pressed further on what kind, Hamilton said the McDonald’s in Pyeongchang only has one flavor: Oreo.

The quip is a hilarious end to a tremendous day for Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Not only did women’s hockey end a 20-year gold drought with a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory over Canada, Hamilton and the men’s curling squad stunned the neighbors to the north.

Canada was the three-time defending Olympic champion in the sport, and the nation had done no worse than silver since curling returned to the program in 1998. Meanwhile, the U.S. had only managed a bronze in 2006.

But thanks to the 5-3 stunner in the semifinals, USA skip John Shuster continued adding to his redemption story. And, more importantly, Hamilton had a terrific reason to celebrate with ice cream.
