Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor took a huge pay cut during the offseason in order to remain with the team. The contract restructure is looking to be a wise decision so far for Buffalo, based on reports coming out of camp.
Consider the following observation of Taylor’s performance after Thursday’s training camp session.
“On first down, Taylor and Watkins weren’t on the same page on a ‘read’ route” according to Mike Rodak of ESPN. “Watkins turned back to Taylor, but the pass was targeted deep downfield. Taylor likely would have been sacked by defensive end Jerry Hughes on the play. On second down, Taylor’s pass was batted down at the line of scrimmage. On third down, center Eric Wood and Taylor couldn’t connect on the snap, leaving the ball on the ground to end the drill.”
Rodak noted it’s been a rough first week overall for the quarterback. This marks a pivotal year for the Taylor, in general and for and his future career as a Bill. The fact that Taylor is struggling right before the preseason kicks off is a bit of a red flag.
Buffalo is committed to Taylor only through 2017. He’ll need to have a strong year in order to stick around into next year.
The 28-year-old quarterback put up a 7-8 record in 2016. He completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 3,023 yards, 17 touchdowns and six interceptions. As one of the more mobile quarterbacks in the league, Taylor also added 580 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns to his numbers.
