Tyrod Taylor: Bills haven’t made a decision about his future with the team

Following a drama-filled season that seemingly saw him fall out of favor with the Buffalo Bills’ front office, quarterback Tyrod Taylor is facing an uncertain future.

Taylor, coming off just his second full season as a starter in the NFL, signed a five-year, $90 million extension with Buffalo this past August. Combine that contract with another pretty good season, and it makes sense that Taylor would be the team’s long-term solution at quarterback.

Unfortunately, that’s just a surface-based point. Taylor has a total of $30-plus million in options guaranteed to him should he remain on the Bills’ roster come the opening of the new league year next month. It also appears that the team’s powers-to-be aren’t necessarily sold on him over the long term (more on that here).

In fact, there’s some evidence that points to Rex Ryan being fired by the Bills due to his support of Taylor (more on that here).

Either way, Taylor himself isn’t sure what the Bills’ plans are for him (via ESPN).

Taylor did indicate that he wants to return to the Bills in 2017. But the entire process that led to his ultimate benching and the Bills’ questionable injury stance makes it seems Taylor will not return to the team next season. Add in that huge team option, and this is only magnified further.

Rehabbing from a groin injury, Taylor would be one of the most highly-coveted free agent quarterbacks should the Bills move on from him. In two seasons as the team’s starter, he’s put up over 7,000 total yards with 47 total touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
