The legendary Serena Williams had an opportunity to notch her eighth Wimbledon win and third in four years in the finals against Germany’s Angelique Kerber Saturday at the All-England Club.
Unfortunately for America’s princess, it was not to be. Unforced error after unforced error led to her losing consecutive sets, 6-3, to fall short of the title.

Williams’ return to the court and near title comes shortly after she struggled through a complicated pregnancy. She’s 37 years old and still one of the top athletes in the world.
Obviously, Twitter had a lot to say about the performances of both Kerber and Williams on Saturday. Here’s the best.
Serena still has my respect. She had a whole baby and returned to compete at a high level and advanced to the Wimbledon championship. That’s pretty awesome. Just wasn’t her day and again Kerber was good.

Angelique Kerber becomes the first German woman to win #Wimbledon since Steffi Graf in 1996. Defeats Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3 in 65 minutes.
The Serena-Angie hug just surpassed all of DelPo's hugs in my book! pic.twitter.com/MhUiJcZ8FL

What an amazing run by #Serena, but hats off to Kerber. She played great today. Had Serena running all over the court. Definitely a deserving champion. She's now just the 2nd player to ever beat Serena twice in a grand slam final. Venus is the other. #Wimbledon

Serena Williams came back from pregnancy to make it to the finals of Wimbledon at almost 37 years old. That’s greatness.
Despite the loss, she’s still the GOAT.
